ESGC Club Trophies
Trophies are open to ESGC members for flights from Wormingford (WRM), defined as either (a) overhead the main runway or (b) the BGA Turning Point "WRM". It is NOT a requirement to declare which start or finish line or sector is to be used.
The trophy year runs 1st January - 31st December.
The Club Ladder Trophy
- Any two flights by the P1 pilot may count.
- Points are awarded for cross-country or height achievements. If claiming both height and cross-country points, these count as 2 flights.
- Points for Height claims, supported by a barogram, are awarded as (Height Gain (feet) -1500) /10
- Points for cross-country are: Distance points = fD x (distance (km)) / handicap plus Speed Points = fS x (HandicapSpeed)squared x distance (km) / handicap x 2000 where Handicap Speed = Distance / time x handicap (km/hr)
- Completed Declaration Flight: fD=2 fS=1
- Uncompleted Declared Flight: fD=2 fS=0
where distance = (distance achieved in direction of failed TP).
- Undeclared Flight fD=1 fS=0.25 if return to Wormingford.
- Declarations must be made before take-off either by
- a start board photo showing Date, Pilot and Turn Points in any order, or
- datalogger BGA competition format or
- by attempting a first Silver distance. Proof of the flight will be by Turning Point photographs or GPS data log. Timing may be by observation at start and finish or by data-back camera, or by GPS data log. Maximum cross country start height 1000m.
- In the event of non-compliance an adjustment may be made to the points at the discretion of the Ladder Steward.
- Confirmation of TP evidence and barograms is required for any pilot in contention for the Trophy. In the event of non-compliance by a pilot in contention for the Trophy, assessment to be according to the current BGA Competition Rules.
The Jeff Cork Trophy
- Retained for one year by the pilot(s) making the longest handicapped total distance in one flight from Wormingford.
- Maximum start height 1000m.
The Members' Cup
- Retained for one year by the club member, other than a committee member, who has made the greatest contribution to the well being of the club.
- Decided by the previous recipients of the cup.
The President's Cup
- Retained for one year by the pilot(s) making the fastest handicapped flight around the club 200 km triangle (East Dereham, Ely Cathedral)
- Si Handicap.
- Timing and start height as rules for Club Ladder.
The 100km Triangle Trophy
- Retained for one year by the pilot(s) making the fastest handicapped flight around the club 100k triangle (Rattlesden Clubhouse, Newmarket junct A45 / A142)
- Si Handicap.
- Timing and start height as rules for Club Ladder.
The Bob Ivermee Rose Bowl
- Awarded annually to the pilot with the most notable achievement or progress during the year, who is at about the same stage of flying that Bob was at when he died, progressing onwards from Bronze. Award decided by the CFI and Instructors.
The Instructors' Cup
- Awarded annually and retained by recipient.
- Decided by the CFI and Instructors.
- For the pilot who has first-soloed in the past year and is likely both to further progress with his or her flying and to make a positive contribution to the Club.
The Tiny Triangle Trophy
- Retained for 1 year by the pilot or pilots or pilot under instruction for the fastest handicapped flight around the "Tiny Triangle".
- The three turning points of the Tiny Triangle are
- where Chappel railway viaduct crosses the A1124
- Bures railway bridge over the road
- the southern end of the south-eastern small reservoir between the airfield and West Bergholt.
- The first turning point may be any of the three turning points and the task may be flown in either direction.
- Handicap speed = (Distance flown x 100) / (Time x Si)
- Time defined as take off to landing as log sheet.
- Distance flown defined as number of photographed or data logged legs x 6 km.
The Sodit Trophy
- Awarded annually to the pilot whose exploit is most in keeping with the Trophy Title. Trophy displayed in Clubhouse.
Club Record Flights
Proof of all data will be required in addition to normal rules.
